Basketball has a unique history; not only was it invented by a Canadian, James Naismith, but he came up with the rules for the express purpose of preventing his rowdy students from injuring each other. While working as an instructor at a YMCA in Massachusetts in 1891, Naismith invented basketball as an indoor activity for rainy days. The original goal was a discarded peach basket nailed to a top railing. A student proposed knocking the bottom out of the basket, so that the janitor wouldn’t have to retrieve the ball after every successful point scored, and basketball took off from there.

Today, basketball is one of the most popular sports in America. If you are a fan of a particular team, or play for your school or local league, then you can commemorate your passion with one of our basketball keychains.
